The best performance of the young people from Cluj during that period was the accession to the Romanian Cup final, in the 1941-1942 season. Unfortunately, "U" was defeated in Bucharest by Rapid, 7-1. The moment of his return to Cluj, on July 26, 1945, is described in an emotional paragraph of Mircea Luca's book: "I was afraid to step on stones, lest something move and change. On the very day we arrived we went to the stadium. Szony-baci was there, as always. When he saw us, he couldn't say a word. He stayed like that, about three minutes in a row. He didn't even blink. Then, just as muted, he walked over to a closet. He opened with the key and pulled on a large, scrim-like drawer. And, with the same robot movements, he pulled 11 black-and-white T-shirts out of the drawer, carefully stacked on top of each other. He put them on the table and smoothed them a few times. No one said a word. I stared at my eyes so I wouldn't cry and looked in the pile for the number shirt. 5. It was my T-shirt.
