Olímpico Clube_1967 - Image captured in an unidentified location, showing the champion team of that year - the Olímpico ...Clube team. The historic record is part of a tribute made by the sports section of Jornal do Comércio to the champion teams of the first seven years of the foundation of the Amazonas Football Federation, the FAF. The first team to be crowned champion, after the foundation of the FAF, was São Raimundo Esporte Clube, in 1966; followed by Olímpico Clube in 1967, Nacional Futebol Clube in 1968 and 1969, Nacional Fast Clube in 1970 and 1971 and Nacional Futebol Clube again in 1972. Olímpico Clube was crowned Amazonian Champion twenty years after having won its second championship title in 1944. As had happened with the teams of other champions, the Olímpico Clube team became well known among Amazonian fans and the board of the "club of five rings" took the opportunity to launch the construction of the club's Aquatic Park and form one of the best swimming teams in the Northeast, whose exponent, in the eighties, was the Amazonian swimming champion Paulo Roberto de Aguiar Caminha, affectionately called "Kako" Caminha. Kako died prematurely in 1983, after eating a "kikão" (hot dog) in Rio de Janeiro that was contaminated with the lethal bacteria 'clostridium botulinum' that causes botulism. Highlights: Just like the stars of other champion teams, the players of Olímpico Clube experienced their moments of glory with the fans and supporters, always honored and admired. Players such as Xerém, Cascadura, Sidney, Santiago and goalkeeper Procópio used to draw applause wherever they went. At the time, Amazonian football experienced unforgettable moments in its history, still present in the memories of Amazonian fans today. Source: Manaus Sorriso - Photo: Jornal do Comércio Archive.
