In close collaboration with the DIF Soldier Project from the Danish Sports Confederation and Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality..., Lyngby Boldklub is organizing a tribute match for Danish war veterans. This will take place when Veteran Match 2023 is held across the country in September.
Building on Flag Day on September 5th, the top Danish football, ice hockey, and handball leagues have joined forces to focus on Denmark's soldier veterans.
This is happening through Veteran Match, which is held nationwide to honor, recognize, and support those who have risked their lives to fight for Denmark in global hotspots.
This recognition is marked through so-called tribute matches, where veterans are honored and acknowledged in sports arenas during league matches in football, handball, and ice hockey.
We at Lyngby Boldklub, together with Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality, are part of the initiative and are dedicating the home match against Vejle BK on September 22nd to honor Danish war veterans. Some Danish veterans have returned from tough missions in war zones with scars on body and soul, others never came home, and common to all deployed is that they have risked their lives for a greater cause.
These people deserve recognition for their efforts, and we do this with flags, applause, stadium announcements, specially designed player jerseys, and a series of additional visible initiatives at the stadium, inspired by Remembrance Day in the Premier League.
In connection with the tribute match, money will also be raised from the sale of match-worn player jerseys with the Veteran Match logo. The sales will take place via auction, and the proceeds go directly to association activities under the Danish Sports Confederation's Soldier Project, which works to provide sports opportunities for injured veterans in community sports.
