In February 1985, Fluminense traveled to Angola at the invitation of Braspetro (a subsidiary of Petrobras) for a Cr$80 m...illion sponsorship. They played friendly matches against Petro Atlético and the Huambo National Team to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Angolan Insurrection and the 24th anniversary of the War of Independence. Following the matches, Braspetro partnered with British Petroleum, Sonangol, and Petrofina to build a platform. For the first time, Petrobras explored an offshore platform with its own rig.
Assis was received as an idol and commented on his trip: "Just thinking that millions of Brazilians come from Angola makes me emotional. Professionally, this friendly match means nothing to me, but as far as the black race is concerned, I feel gratified."

It shows President Manoel Schwartz presenting Sports Minister Raul Mingas with a beautiful watch set in agate, with a Fluminense shield in the background.
